Amongst the summer flowers and the ‘happy pigs’ we practiced our Lotti mass (led by the brilliant Robert Dean), breathed new life into our singer’s lungs in Temi’s yoga sessions and pondered the significance of the carved bird with object in mouth that adorned the many nooks of our lovely accommodation at Ernesto’s Casale Degli Amici. Never did get quite to the bottom of that bird!
We ate delicious local food, supped a glass or two of Umbria’s finest Sagrantino wine, went for a mountain walk in the Piano Grande and watched Angela and Santini make pecorino and ricotta cheese. We also drank Anna Rita’s wine at the brilliant Romanelli cantina and gulped down lashings of olio di olive too. Did I mention the grappa? It really was a tough 7 days!!
It was certainly a varied week! Dodging storm clouds, candlelit dinners under the portico of San Andrea di Campi and singing mass at the incredible church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Spello were all highlights – even the occasional downpour didn’t put us off our stride or dampen our spirits! In fact, the rain added to it in a bizarre way…kind of.
