Danilo Tepša – Tenor, choral conductor and harpsichord player – studied Musical Education, Theology and Singing at Mainz University, graduating with the degree of Master of Musical Arts (Voice). Having taken up choral conducting at the early age of 16, he constantly pursued this field parallel to his career as an opera singer. From 2008 on, he held a lectureship for Early Music and Vocal Ensemble at Mainz University, where he was also responsible for several choir preparations for various conductors, e.g. Michael Schneider of “La Stagione Frankfurt” and Prof. Wolfram Koloseus, formerly National Theatre Mannheim including a world premiere of Thomas Wells’ “Sechs Trakl-Gesänge”. He has prepared choirs and vocal ensembles for opera productions of Staatstheater Mainz (Dido and Aeneas) and Theater Koblenz (Shostakovich’s “The Nose”). With his own choir, convivium musicum Mainz, the choir of Mainz University’s musicological department, he performs several demanding a-cappella-programmes every year, most recently an English Cathedral Music programme on a tour through southwest England. Danilo Tepša has worked for and with conductors like Michael Hofstetter, Ralf Otto, Wolfgang Seeliger, Wolfgang Schäfer, Reinhard Goebel, Christian Rieger and many others. After three years as a character tenor in the ensemble of Theater Koblenz, he is now concentrating on choral music again, both as a singer and a conductor. Currently, he is a member of the WDR broadcasting company Radio Chorus.
